Mental Junk Food

𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙥𝙪𝙩 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙜𝙖𝙧𝙗𝙖𝙜𝙚?

Most of us know what not to eat and drink to stay healthy. But what we put into our heads is MORE important that what we put into our bodies.

And the average amount of time each person spends on social media is approximately 𝟮 𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦 𝗣𝗘𝗥 𝗗𝗔𝗬.

List out all the other things you do for at least 2 hours every day.

💤 Sleep

🚧 Work

🚌 Drive

🍔 Eat

📺 Watch TV

But do you exercise 2 hours every day?

Do you read for 2 hours every day?

Do you talk to your spouse for 2 hours every day?

Do you spend 2 hours of intentional time with your kids every day?

I'm willing to bet that the answer is NO to any or all those questions.

I'm not going to judge you on your current choices because I'm no better. I love binging on TV, video games, and YouTube.

I've gone to bed late because I couldn't get enough of "Hot Ones" or "Tasting History".

I'm sure you have your own stories.

But what I want to highlight is what are we doing to ourselves by binging on this stuff.

Studies have shown that the negative affects of binging on social media include:

➡ 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗻𝗶𝗮

➡ 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻

➡ 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘀

➡ 𝗻𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗮

➡ 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀

And that is even before you dove into that blog about "Finally, proof that the Earth is flat!!!".

I guess the real question that needs answering is WHY do we binge on this crap?

Its the same reason we binge on chips, or chocolates.

𝗪𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻'𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗗.

We get restless when we are left alone with our thoughts.

Or we don't like what we see so we choose to distract ourselves.

Social Media is the new Soap Opera.

𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲'𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻.

Just like there are consequences for living on a diet of McDonalds so too are the consequences of living in Instagram.

What do you want to be doing with that extra 2hrs a day?
